Swimming Corgi!

I always hear that many Corgis are terrible swimmers and will sink like a brick, but Philip loves taking dips in the water. As long as the water is calm, he will wade and swim in it all on his own. Sometimes I even toss a ball for him and he'll happily bring it back, though I try not to toss it too far out just in case.

This weekend we went to a nearby pond. We've been here many times before and Philip gets very excited to go running and swimming here. The pond is man-made and has a ledge all around. It's not a very big drop, but still a bit scary for Philip, so he takes a few approaches before slowly descending into the water. It's very cute to watch him, and I wonder if he'll eventually figure out to simply jump in from the ledge like most other dogs.

Anyway, I got one of his random plunges on video, so enjoy :)

How cute :) Gibson is still afraid to jump in the water by himself, but if I 'throw' him in, he'll swim!

Hahha so cute! I've just discovered Sadie loves to swim, and she can go pretty far, too!! She prefers the lake but is getting more used to the ocean now, as long as it's pretty calm!

I LOVE how he went in the water. That was one of the cutest things I have ever seen.

We are trying to figure out if Bails knows how to swim, if she likes it, if she will do ti and what not. We saw a recent splashdog competition and really want to try it for Bails. Just for fun since she is so water obsessed, but swimming is kind of a preq so we'll see what is going to happen.

Great video..I subbed you on YT

Kelly, we started out the same - I would take Philip in the water in my arms and have him swim back out. Eventually he figured out that it's not bad at all :) Gibson will probably get it eventually too.

Laurie, Philip will also swim only in calm water. Tiny waves in a bay are okay, but open ocean - no way. He'll run and play in the white water on the shore line, but he never crosses the breaking waves, that's too scary. Sadie is super cute by the way!

Bailey's Mom, aren't the splash dogs awesome? It looks like so much fun for the pups! Philip would obviously fail since he can't even jump from the tiny pond ledge :) I would suggest taking Bails out into the water when it's a bit calm (best if you can find something other than the ocean). Just lower her into the water and keep your hands right under her - you'll know right away if she's swimming instinctively or not. Then, if she is enjoying it, just stay close by with her the first few times so she can gain confidence, and you'll be good to go :)
